Cover

The Purcell Public Library continues its celebration of the “Key Ingredients: America by Food” exhibit by hosting a pair of authors at an upcoming program at the library.

A Chickasaw Cookbook Authors Luncheon, featuring Chickasaw authors JoAnn Ellis and Vicki May Penner, will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 15, in the Meeting Room of the library, 919 N. Ninth St.

Ellis and Penner wrote the book “Ilimpa'chi'(Let's Eat!) and will discuss it, as well as sign and sell copies at the luncheon. The book celebrates the food, culture and lives of the Chickasaw Nation and its history.

Registration is not required to attend.

The library is hosting a series of programming related to the exhibit, which is on display through March 3.

“Key Ingredients: America by Food” is a Smithsonian Institution outreach program that is visiting six sites in Oklahoma this fall and in 2012. The exhibit is part of Museum on Main Street, a partnership of the Smithsonian and state humanities councils, including the Oklahoma Humanities Council, which helped bring the exhibit to Oklahoma.

Further local support has been provided by the Pioneer Library System, the McClain County OSU Extension Office, Chickasaw Nation’s “Get Fresh” Program, The Heart of Oklahoma Chamber of Commerce, the McClain County Historical Society and Museum, the City of Purcell, Oklahoma Home and Community Education and the Friends of the Purcell Public Library.
