Celebrate Valentine’s Day with Purcell Public Library, Key Ingredients exhibit

Purcell - Key Ingredients

The Purcell Public Library celebrates Valentine’s Day with a weekend full of special programs, primarily for children.

Each program also celebrates the “Key Ingredients: America By Food” exhibit being hosted at the library through March 3.

Programs include Preschool Story Time Friday, Feb. 10, a Valentine's Day Craft for children Saturday, Feb. 11, and a Valentine's Day Tea for families Sunday, Feb. 12.

The library’s weekly Preschool Story Time, at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 10, will focus on Valentine’s Day and includes songs, stories and a cookie decorating craft. The program is geared for children ages 5 and under and their caregivers.

On Saturday morning, children ages 1-12 have the chance to decorate Valentine’s Day cookies in a come-and-go craft program that runs from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

And Sunday, Feb. 12, things get a little more fancy with a Valentine’s Day Tea at 2 p.m. Families are invited to take part in a holiday celebration in the spirit of the year 1900, with a territorial Oklahoma flair. Participants are encouraged to wear their Sunday hats and finery and enjoy an old fashioned Valentine's Day party.

Registration is not required to attend any of the programs.

“Key Ingredients: America by Food” is a Smithsonian Institution outreach program that is visiting six sites in Oklahoma this fall and in 2012. The exhibit is part of Museum on Main Street, a partnership of the Smithsonian and state humanities councils, including the Oklahoma Humanities Council, which helped bring the exhibit to Oklahoma.
