Summer is here and that means it is time for the Summer Reading Programs. All of the hometown libraries have prepared a Summer full of fun for children, teens,and adults. In addition to all the programs put on by the hometown libraries, there are several traveling programs that will visit multiple libraries throughout the Summer. So, if you really like a presenter, you can see them again at another library.

CHILDREN- Make a Splash!
The Children’s Summer Reading Program is presented with support from: Oklahoma Department of Libraries, Institute of Museum and Library Services, Sonic Corporation, Hitachi Computer Products (America) Inc., Oklahoma Arts Council, Anne and Henry Zarrow Foundation, Pioneer Library System, and local Friends of the Library groups.
The Stringman
Jump on board and follow the flow of the story and string play with Dave Titus the String Man. Dave has new string figures to show from India, Germany, and Mexico. The String Man entertains children of all ages with his storytelling and string.

The Noiseguy
Charlie Williams is the Noiseguy, a vocal sound impressionist who can imitate bubbles and flushes, splashes and shushes. Learn to make water drips and drops and participate in this noisy nautical nonsense in a shower of splashy stories and slobbery sounds for little squirts this summer.

Monty Harper
Monty Harper will make a splash with his Wacky, Witty, Wet & Wild Songs. Monty’s interactive program and original songs celebrate reading and libraries. Harper discarded the idea of teaching college algebra for a career in smart, funny, independent music for kids. He’s toured 40-50 libraries each summer for two decades.

Sugar Free Allstars
Sugar Free Allstars bring fun and funky music to float the boat. This two-piece band puts on a rock show for kids that includes songs about kitty cats, boats and ships, banana pudding, and bath time that will make you want to clap and sing along with every word. Their shows are full of body-movin’ beats and entertaining crowd participation that gets everyone involved in the party.

TEENS- Make Waves
West African Drumming
Damon Frazier introduces West African musical instruments and a variety of drums. Teens learn centuries-old traditional African rhythms and perform individually and in an ensemble.
Frazier is an artist working primarily in traditional African percussion, electronic music, and video production. Frazier’s remarkable ability to combine traditional African rhythms and styles with his music creates a refreshing and unique sound that inspires the soul and broadens the mind.

Origami & Watercolor
Award-winning Malaysian artist Kristie Ming Tan Ngo combines Japanese origami with Chinese watercolor and shows teens how to create their original art.
Kristie Ming Tan Ngo immigrated to the United States in 1992. She has been an Artist-In-Residence for the Oklahoma Arts Council since 1993. Her painting A Scissortail Returns was showcased in the Oklahoma Centennial Chinese Cultural Exhibition and is permanently part of the Oklahoma History Center collection.

Make Waves- Write!
Mel Odom uses a sink-or-swim approach to writing that makes his workshop like none other. Odom is author of more than 150 books and a member of the Oklahoma Professional Writers Hall of Fame. Odom, who teaches professional writing courses at the University of Oklahoma, will guide participants through traditional writing approaches and explore blogging as another avenue for imagination and creativity.
Odom writes in many different genres, from fantasy and science fiction to suspense, romance (using a pseudonym), comic books, and blogs. He has also published many novelizations of TV shows, video games, and movies. Some of his books include The Rover series, the first of which won him the Alex Award, given to works written for adults that also have special appeal to young adults; the Left Behind: Military series, which appeared on the Christian bestseller list; and contributions to the Mack Bolan action-adventure series.

Pioneer Library System hosts the Foundation Center Cooperating Collection, offering a body of resources that individuals and nonprofit organizations can use to research funding opportunities from foundations and corporations.
This session will introduce the fundamentals of grant seeking and effective proposal writing, and teach you how to locate detailed profiles and related information for foundations that fund individuals.
This workshop will be conducted by Jayme Shelton, Business Services Specialist for Moore Public Library, who has served on several boards for non-profit organizations. He brings a unique perspective to grant seeking.
